Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
few rumours on TWITTER that we are looking to buy the OS outright.

This would make sense for all parties........... apart from the athletics 'legacy' but im sure we could rent it to them.

"Gawd knows how many goals Antonio would have scored in front of him on the right wing his best position IF we had signed him."

I thought the whole idea of wing backs is that you don't play a right winger?

Riddle

they wanted 15-20m

based on last season not one person who watched him would have thought he was worth it

I don't think we had an option to buy with Moses. He signed an extended deal with Chelsea the day before we got him on loan?

Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
Ok I'll give Moses a mention then.

Moses was a loan with an option to buy, which we didn't take up, bad judgement by the manager? Or didn't the 2bobs want to cough up?

He is doing superb at Chelsea at Right wing back, Bilics problem position. Gawd knows how many goals Antonio would have scored in front of him on the right wing his best position IF we had signed him.

Then again he didn't seem so motivated for us as at Chelsea, probably because he never felt we were going to buy him and he would be a Chelsea player again soon, which goes to prove loans don't work very well with the exception of Lanzini (can't think of any others) who was really a jewel find and very motivated not to return to the desert.

Sounds like a strategy for the longer term to get a squad with resale value too which leads to us being able to invest in better potentially too. Never happen at West Ham with the 2Bobs.

Of course, Sullivan will go for the newsworthy player with a reputation who will be at the tail end of his career. Rooney or someone like that. Beckham out of retirement anyone? Its like the 2bob geezer that buys an old Jag to be a big shot.

Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
You only get Loan to buy options for players in Europe's main leagues that are out of favour, that clubs want shot of, and that no one else wants to cough up for.

If you look at it like that, you pretty much only get some old shit no one wants, or a punt on someone no one has ever heard of from some minor league where event the hope of a big payday is enough to get the loaning club to comply.

It's basically small time thinking.

I tend to agree with Alex V we should be buying more players like Sakho...speculating on young but hungry unprovens outperforming their lower level but with the physique to cut it in our league.

Spending big money is no guarantee of success....look at purchases like Mangala, Sakho at Liverpool (now Palace) or similar.

If they aren't proven at a top 6 club AND A GOOD AGE in the premier league (not many of those will come to us) we should be looking at the players with potential from the Championship or pulling up trees somewhere unfashionable abroad. Kouyate a great example of the kind of policy that should be adopted.

We missed out horribly on Kante, did again on Gueye (who proved himself in a dire Villa side), and also in my opinion on Benteke.

I actually think we might have dodged a bullet on Batshuayi but time will tell one way or another.

This Summer I'd take Mandzukic as the guy is our level of Ibrahimovic. A quality player with years left in the tank and the physique to succeed...he looked class for Juve against us pre season.

Beyond that, we need young talent, not out of favour, unshiftable shysters.

Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
No, we backed the manager and got the player he wanted, Tore, whom Besiktas wanted 17m for but the board were unsure if he would settle/adapt. Feghouli was just a squad filler, Tore was bought as a first team player. it wasn't between Feghouli and Redmond, it was between Tore and Redmond.

Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
Along with the results the fact that Bilic wanted to BUY Zaza & Tore I believe is why Mancini is in the directors box with Sullivan.
To be honest in regards to the £42m bullet we dodged I find it hard to argue with them having doubts about Bilics judgement

Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
I know everyone is running a mile and wants to pass the blame for the shit to others.
My view is that I watched Zaza v ROI in the Euros and massive alarm bells went off.
Ancient history but Redmond was a no brainer for me. He even scored in both games against us for Norwich. I still believe he was £12m and Feghouli free so we got the terrible player instead of the bloke who is now in the England squad

Trevor B 8:49 Mon Mar 27
Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
Oh and Tore was Bilic's number one target, he wanted him the previous summer and had obviously managed him at Besiktas, so it's not like the board overruled the manager and went for Tore instead of Redmond.

Trevor B 8:45 Mon Mar 27
Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
Sven

supposedly he demanded to leave them, and then obviously when we wanted to return him 1) they weren't happy with his previous attitude and 2) we had paid a loan fee which our club wanted partly refunded. Perhaps Bilic didn't want redmond or gabbiadini? It's easy to lay the blame at the board when the reality is that they, the chief scout and the manager were all to blame.

Sven Roeder 8:34 Mon Mar 27
Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
If Juve had a buyer for Zaza they would have sold him.
It was interesting that the Turks folded quite quickly to let Tore go on loan as they were desperate to shift him. As shown with their horrified reaction when we wanted to send him back.

Perhaps in future we should be wary of these sort of deals.
Obviously in hindsight (some hindsight as well as having seen the players) we should have bought Redmond and Gabbiadini
Neither of those had a loan option funnily enough, the clubs wanted money.

No mention of Moses?

Iron2010 8:08 Mon Mar 27
Re: TalkSPORT now - talking about the owners
The try before you buy option is flawed as clubs will only let top players go for good money. It's okay as a punt that makes up a small part of your transfer strategy. Far to much of our wage bill went into Zaza and Tore whose clubs were happy to let them go.

>>> how can a club with 52 000 season ticket holders have no more spending power than stoke west brom and crystal palace .

Well firstly we have comfortably outspent those clubs in recent years. Secondly it surely remains to be seen what the bigger stadium does to further increase our financial clout.

Yes they saved us a fortune shopping in the Turkish League and on a Juve flop, who's only goal was against us.
